I had never had a hair cut before…Can you imagine that? I mean, how many people do you come across everyday who had not had any hair cut since their birth? I was not born completely bald, but I had just enough hair to cover my scalp. It’s been more than 10 months and it has grown leaps and bounds lengthwise. Now my hair seems to be all over. One swipe on my head and they veil my eyes. They are weird near my ears. Every single hair seems to have grown in its own direction. Long story short, it’s a high time to cut them short. Moreover, before I turn 11 months, I should get ‘Jaawal’ done!
So today, I was made to sit only in diapers on daddy’s lap. After ‘Aukshan’ daddy cut a lock of my hair… click click ..photo has to be there, duh!.. then I was placed on the plastic sheet with a toy to play with. Dad started working on my head with a comb and scissor. Scissor went all over my head, behind the ears, on the forehead, near the nape. I was busy playing and did not know that I was getting a makeover. Hair fell all over my body (I wonder, why mom did not think of putting a poncho on me) It bothered me when tiny pieces went into my mouth. I tried to take it off with my hand but more hair clung on my face. But I did not cry at all. When it was almost done, daddy spotted a little strand behind my ear which was un-cut. He grabbed that strand and at the very same time I moved forward. What an impeccable timing!! My hair got badly pulled and I screeeeeeeeeeeeaamed! Tears started rolling rapidly. After that I would not let dad touch my hair. I screamed everytime he tried to cut it. At last without paying any heed to my bawls or screeches he finished his job. When I saw myself in the mirror, I was like – Wow… I have got a Halle Berry look! I like it. Good job daddy!
After a nice warm bath, paparazzi of mom and dad clicked my umpteen pics and send them across to aaji-ajoba, kaka-maushi, aatya-mama. I got one little hair-cut and the news has already spread across the seven seas… Aaahhaaa…. That’s the pleasure of being a baby!
